OBSCURA - RETRIBUTION

RELAPSE RECORDS 2010

Release: 16-02-2010
Origin: Germany
Length: 49:40

The month January of the year 2009 brought already (my personal) number one release of that year: Obscura's "Cosmogenesis" album. Never technical death metal had sounded so technical, melodic, ingenious and advanced as on this record. One word describes this: brilliant.

During this year I was very lucky and got the chance to witness Obscura 3 times live on stage and also found their quite rare and hard to find debut album "Retribution" on Vots records. The guys still had it for sale (back than) and told me it were their last copies. So for all of you late entrants, who now are sitting back home and whining, here is your chance to own another brilliant piece of technical death metal art. Relapse records now re-released Obscura's debut album, although with a different layout, but bonus-ed with some extra cover songs of Suffocation and Morbid Angel.

To go back to 2009 after the concert. back home I immediately threw the obtained debut CD in the player and after fell down astonished and breathless into the couch. To just finish it quick and painless. this album is more brutal and aggressive with greater riffs and rhythm structures, melody and insanity at an insane technical level and very good and clear overall sound. A year later I can state that this album is even better than "Cosmogenesis" and that the copies I bought for friends, during the second concert, were and still are embraced by each of them.

Please do yourself a favour when Death is your number one death (technical) metal band, if you adore Sceptic's "Blind Existence", when you are still bidding to gain a copy of Theory In Practice "Third Eye Function" CD on the fucking Ebay or when you believed Martyr's (Can) "Feeding the Abscess" was the golden medal of the deathly technical Olympics.

You won't find it more brutal and displayed at such a technical level. You are going to adore every song on the album, even the extra added coversongs.

When you haven't heard or intend not to go listen to this album. Nothing, You are, You Were, You Will Be. Nothing At All.

Magnificent brutal technical death metal.

PS: minus 5 points for the ugly new artwork!!!
