Earache Records 2010

This American band succeeded in incorporating the old-school heavy metal sound in their music, and I just could not wait to hear their first full-length. Well, ‘Over The Top’ is out at last, and I can’t imagine a better title for it. Sure, the NWOBHM influences from Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Diamond Head, Saxon and countless others are all around, but White Wizzard succeeded in lifting it to higher grounds. This not only goes for their technical capabilities, but also for the compositions and the sound. Above all this their new vocalist Wyatt sings even stronger then his predecessor, which results in even a higher level to beat. The influences from the aforementioned bands are clear, but I never get the feeling White Wizzard is just imitating their heroes. This album is an absolute must for oldschool traditional heavy metal fans.
