MEGADETH – Endgame

(Roadrunner Records)
2009
Megadeth is one of my favorite bands of all times. Albums like “Peace Sells…”, “Rust In Peace”, “Countdown To Extinction” and “Youthanasia” in my opinion are diamonds of thrash-heavy metal. On the other hand their last albums were good but nothing more. So I was very cautious before listening their new album “Endgame”. But oh my god here we have a thrash metal holocaust. “Endgame” is the best album the band has released since “Countdown To Extinction” and is definitely the heaviest since “Rust In Peace”. Songs like “This Day We Fight” and “1320” sound like they come straight from the “Rust In Peace” era. Musically the band tries almost everything from thrash riffs and fast-technical solos to acoustic parts, which is what they have always been doing so far. Especially I was amazed by the quality and the quantity of the solos. I haven’t heard so many solos since “Rust In Peace” and here I must give credit to Chris Broderick a great guitar player that is fast and technical at the same time and managed in such a short time to bond with Mustaine and remind me of Friedman-Mustaine duo. The lyrics great as always move around politics, war and personal staff and Mustaine delivers a great vocal work after a long time. In my opinion there isn’t a filler in this album, all the songs are great but the ones that stand out are “This Day We Fight”, “44 Minutes”, “Endgame” and “The Right To Go Insane”. To sum up Megadeth created a great album that puts them back at the top of the metal map, an album of excellent thrash metal that is going to please all their fans after a long time. Definitely one of the best albums of 2009.
