I had the great privilage of doing this interview with of the Turkish Black Metal band Satanized. After speaking with a couple members of this band I have learned a lot in what it means to be in a black metal band in the world where the Islamic religion rules the nation. Here is a great explanation to the world of Satanized:

1: Hello Satanized, Tell us who is answering this interview and give us some details as to who you are and what you do for the band. Also tell us how you came up with the name Satanized for the bands name and the significance of the name to your music.

This is Angramainyu (guitars and vocal) . We are standing against the religion and society for years. in the past, these simpleminded people tried to dictate us to believe. Since childhood we questionizing things. As we over thought about this stuff it ended up with hatred. Black metal is the way to express our thougths and show our hatred towards religion. According to us, their Gods and beliefs must destroyed. Hundreds of bands are following the same path with us and it makes us stronger. All of us are doing this music because of the same reasons. The thing that Muslims call the solution is the problem itself. At this point we agreed on "Satanized" as a name which is standing on the opposite side of god's people.

2: Can you tell us how life in Turkey is and how it relates to your music and is your black metal music influenced by the culture of your country?

Living in Turkey is the worst thing for black metal bands. This society is running with Mahometanism. And the rules that they obey, force us to resist. So our music is influenced by the eastern culture however its not completely connected with it.

3: Can you give us a brief history of the band and the members of the band Satanized?

Angramainyu and Dahaka are childhood friends and they met with daeva in 2005. 4 years later Xaphan and Beliar joined the band (they are still playing with their own bands).

4: Outside of the band what is the everyday life of all of you? Who's married or has a family, Does your lives revolve around Satanized only or do you have other hobbies away from music and if so what are they?

Angramainyu is a graphic designer and sculptor, Dahaka is taking high-level music and maestro courses in college. Daeva is factory laborer, Xaphan is playing drums in professional projects and Beliar is taking geophysic courses in college. Other than our personal things we hang out and drink frequently.

5: What religious beliefs do your lyrics and music betray upon the fans listening, if any? What are your personal religious beliefs and is this another main influence on the writing of your music?

Generally, we are focusing on Islam which is the most violent religion. Of course we are against all religions but we are living under the pressure of Muslim country this is the reason why we are focusing on Islam especially.

6: You have a 4 song promo out, how has it done in the eyes of the black metal fans? How long did it take to come up with the material to create the 4 songs to put on the promo?

Our EP is not released in Turkey yet but we are taking positive responses from myspace. We did our records at home with the Dahaka's eqipments. It took 6 months just to collect the main equipments.

7: What can we expect from Satanized in 2010 and will you work more to getting your music into the North and South America and Europe, if so how?

First of all we are trying to raise the quality but it takes time besides we are recording our new songs. We will be more spesific in the future, to sum up we are planing creating and considering things, thats all we can say for now...

8: Do you feel Black Metal has changed or grown in recent years, if so, how, and do you think it has been helped with such outlets as Myspace and Facebook?

Of course it has grown. There are thousands of black metal band in the world now . Myspace is a good site for advertising and stuff and it is still quite effective of spreading the music that bands made but we are not supporting sites like facebook which is just for to get friends/trucklers .

9: How important is Satanism in black metal music? Is it more of a feeling, image and sense of evil or actual devil worship?

The old name of black metal was satanic metal. After the movement of NWOBHM it became "black metal". Satanism is not just a part of black metal anymore. For us Satanism is our war propaganda and intellectual expression.

10: How have you brought Satanism into your music and is this something that all the band members believe in or practice in their everyday lives?

We have seperated ourselves from religious people. You get closer to satanism because of that kind of people, and eventually it effects your lyrics. We are watching them with disgust and rising against with our music. The truth is muslimism is not as flexible as christianity so if you try to burn down mosque you will be killed by the society before the police got you so we have to survive to spread our venom.

11: We are seeing a great deal of symphonic sounds added to Black Metal. Do you feel this is a positive addition to the sound?

Of course it provides positive addition but we don't do this just for positive sides. Unlike other metal genres black metal is based on feelings and ideological thoughts. For us, the lyrics are more important from everything but we preferred better sound.

12: How are you involved in your local music scene? Do you play live shows and what kind of audiences do you draw in and do you plan on doing any touring in the future?

Black metal is just show business for our people we were way too different form them so it was easy to reach and get people. We don't have the group of trucklers like the other bands. We are just playing our music on the stage, it must be that simple.

13: In closing is their anything else you would like to express or comment on that we didn't get a chance to talk about or any last words for the Satanized legion?

Thanks for the support and interview. Greetings from Turkey.
