COVERED CALL - Impact

AOR HEAVEN 2013

Four years ago COVERED CALL delivered their very promising debut album, „Money Never Sleeps“, and played some strong live shows (a. o. at Sweden Rock festival). Now the band from Sweden finally delivers the somphomore album, “Impact”, with new bass-player Andy Loos (LIONS SHARE) and master class singer Göran Edman (Yngwie Malmsteen, BRAZEN ABBOT, STREET TALK) replacing Thomas Vikström on board. Musically nothing has changed as COVERED CALL still stand for classic Melodic Rock with powerful guitars and soft keyboards. Maybe the new songs are a little more AOR and due to the unique voice of Göran Edman they have a little different vibe. The highlights are the straight opener “Lorraine”, the colorful mid-tempo tune “Look Into Your Mind”, the guitar- and multi-layered vocal-driven “Hold On”, the thoughtful sounding “Nothing Last Forever” and the opulently arranged “Last Goodbye”. All songs are on a very high level and even after a few listens they don’t show any sign of wear. If you enjoyed the first COVERED CALL, then don’t miss “Impact”. And for the fans of Göran Edman it’s an essential purchase!

CADAVER DISPOSAL - MAY ALL BE DEAD

NIHILISTIC EMPIRE RECORDS 2013

Release: 15-03-2013
Origin: Germany
Length: 39:47

For anyone who thought that Bloodcorpse was disposed with his latest cadavers! Sorry for all of you that have made me dead, my corpse is still running blood and more alive than ever!

So lets feast this macabre return with the new album by Germany's Cadaver Disposal. Their first full excrement is called "May All Be Dead" and both title and band name leave no (body)parts unturned.

Cadaver Disposal have cum up with their debut album after a short and bloody history. From the putrefied remains of their former band Braindead, rose in 2010 the new mutated body Cadaver Disposal. Their first unhealthy deed was to slaughter a demo called "Signum Gloriae", which contained 5 songs and an intro.

After these first signs of life the Cadaver was fully awakened by Nihilistic Empire Records and they were able to deconstruct their first real disposal. The result is a 10 round murder piece, that is dealing with a former military servant, who has been left for dead during and after returning from war. So far so dead, but of course all this is subordinately to the music.

Cadaver Disposal is another band that can be added to this old school death metal revival. By butchering old bands like Obscenity and Autopsy or ripping (body)parts from new bands like Bloodbath and Bone Gnawer, in the end these styles and influences are fully deconstructing the torso. Mainly mid-tempo orientated, simple and effective structures, playing attention to the groove and rhythms of their music; all this makes it enjoyable to listen to.

On the other hand this is also the main aspect and reason why Cadaver Disposal's rating remains the average. An enjoyable piece of music, but more disposable than their original influences.

Disposable old school German death metal!

ELECTROCUTION - INSIDE THE UNREAL

GOREGORECORDS 2012

Re-Release:        30-04-2012
Origin:            Italy
Length:           36:57

Isn’t it funny? After almost 20 years Electrocution’s one and only album “Inside The Unreal” is re-released through Aural Music’s sublabel GoreGoreCords. This is, of course, more than correct while this hidden piece of art is nowhere to find, to buy or to download?! A real collector’s item that deserves a decent second pressing.

Personally I was (am) not known with Electrocution and their music. Now after 20 years of personal death metal history, I have to admit that I should had paid more attention to this pure and effective death metal classic and add it to my collection back than. (Since I am looking for original copies only for my collection, please sent me your offer when you want to get rid of this CD!).

Why funny? First of all, because the band’s name Electrocution doesn’t sound that interesting and attractive to pay attention to back then and second of all, while the opening track “Premature Burial” was the band name of my first band and footsteps within the death metal scene more than 20 years ago. So now history repeats itself and I am thrown back roughly to my childhood.

Also during listening to Electrocution the good old death metal days come back in mind! Production and sound wise no triggers, effects and clean(s)ing. Guitars still sound like metal and do remind me of the first Death albums. Drums still sound like drums and are being hit as drums. Aggressive and technical, but with a very personal touch. Think of the old Atrocity sound, drum patterns and especially their guitar riffs and structures. Todessehnsucht and Hallucinations that will make you longing for the good old death metal days.

Some other trademarks that can be mentioned here are the typical old Swedish Dismember solo’s that appear now and than (“They Died Without Crosses”) on the album and the, although with some technical ideas influenced songs, vocals push this band towards the simplicity and brutality of a Massacre.

A simple, brutal and overlooked death metal album that hopefully will get the renewed attention deserved.

Longing for death metal!
